Sand of Elsewhere

Apologies for dismissing the rest of the world outside the UK and Ireland as 'elsewhere' but I don't get out much these days! In fact all of these have been given to me by friends.

Callao Salvaje, Tenerife

This is volcanic sand from Tenerife. My friends who gave me this said "You won't find sand any blacker than this", but a few months later I was given the one below

Eyjafjallajokull, Iceland

This is the stuff that grounded the entire air fleets of Europe for four or five days in 2007 - and wasn't it peaceful and with such clear blue skies

Nordwijk, Holland

The Netherlands may be as urbanised as South East England (same area - same population) but it does have a more or less uninterrupted beach for 80 miles from the Maas to Den Helder, within 20 miles of most of the population.

Mojácar, Spain

I'm assured that this is the sand trodden upon by Peter O'Toole in Lawrence of Arabia
