Emulating the Old Masters

Bear with a Pearl Earring - Jan Vermeer

Self portrait, 1660 - Rembrandt

OK, so these old masters like Rembrandt and Vermeer could paint, but what they failed to recognise was that given a cheap digital camera, some basic editing software, a teddy bear and a few props they could have saved themselves a lot of time and effort.

In fact, not many people realise that the self portrait of Rembrandt in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York was actually replaced by this image several years ago to save the original from light damage, but that nobody's noticed the difference.

Footnote - None of the above is true except that Rembrandt and Vermeer certainly could paint - and very well indeed.
